Young person not coping at school, and the school are finding it hard to cope with them

Check with the school that your child has an Individual Education Plan.

Keep a diary of events that happen at school as evidence that your child is not coping.

Refer to CAMHS through the school and/or your GP.

If not, discuss with the Senco the reasons why you think that your child should have one.

If the school refuse for any reason you have the right to obtain a private assessment to ascertain the needs of your child.

Contact the Senco and ask for your child to see the Educational Psychologist.  this would highlight any areas of need and would be helpful for evidence for a future statement.

Call Parent Partnership and ask them to attend a meeting with you, the Senco and the Head Teacher to see how you can all work together to ensure that your child's needs are appropriately met.

If the needs of your child are still not being met you may need to seek legal advise from an educational solicitor.

If the school are reluctant you have the right to contact you local LEA and request the assessment yourself.
