Exclusions

Always keep a record of all the phone calls you make. Note down the date, time and name of person who you spoke to.

Always keep a copy of all letters sent and received by you.

Informal or unofficial exclusions are illegal regardless of whether they are done with the agreement of parents or carers.  If the Head is satisfied that a pupil has committed a disciplinary offence and the pupil is being removed from the school site for that reason, formal exclusion is the only legal method of removal.

Check with the school that your child has an Individual Education Plan.

Make sure that the school provides your child with work to do while they are excluded and that it is checked on a daily/weekly basis.

Refer to CAMHS through the school and/or your GP.

If not, discuss with the Senco the reasons why you think that your child should have one.

Ask the school to involve the Education Welfare Officer and the Behavioural Support Team in supporting  your child

Have a private assessment done so as to ascertain the needs of your child and ensure that the statement covers these.

Contact the Senco and ask for your child to see the Educational Psychologist and for the school to assess your child for a statement.

Call Parent Partnership and ask them to attend a meeting with you,  the EWO, the behavioural support team, the Senco and the Head Teacher to see how you can all work together to ensure that your child's needs are appropriately met.

If the needs of your child are still not being met you may need to seek legal advise from an educational solicitor.

If the school are reluctant you have the right to contact you local LEA and request the assessment yourself.
